I just bought this awesome Herman Miller Aeron Chair from one of the biggest retailers. My concern was that, at the first I would not be able to choose the right size. I did know that I wanted the one with the adjustable lower back support, so what i did was I walked in to the store and all the sales reps put me in a B size. I sat in both the A and the B but had adjusted the lower lumbar support while sitting in them, after a while i was thinking to  choose the B size. I took it home and it made no improvements in my back or leg pain.

I have degenerative disc disease L5 S1. I’m 5 3 1/2 and weight 123 pounds. I realized that I was using the lower back support to scoot myself forward in the seat. I called the store and the manager he explained that when choosing the size you should sit in it without the extra lumbar support to decide which one is best for you. After discussing with the manager, we agreed that I should be in an A so that when I use the lower back support it will be actually supporting my back not helping me scoot forward in the chair to adjust for it being too big.

So, what i want to share to you all, do not insert or adjust the lower back support when attempting to decide on the size. I will be returning my B for an A this weekend. If you look at the chart on line you will notice that I’m in between sizes but let me tell you that the sit part is really long for me now that I’m not using the lumbar support which I will use to support my lower back with my new size A.

At least now I know, So be sure to remember, do not add the lumbar support or adjust the posture fit when using your chair. After my experience I would advise that if anybody is less the 5 feet 4 inches and weight is 130 pounds or less, make sure to order the A size. I just can’t see you fitting in to a B. I’m not giving it a 5 star until I get my A chair.

The Aeron Chair by Herman Miller is a very comfortable chair, i really love this chiar. Aesthetically pleasing, and solidly built. You can adjust multiple settings – seat height, armrests height/position, lumbar (PostureFit) support, recline resistance, seat tilt). It is easy to assemble the chair. The Aeron Chair itself comes with all required tools, which is basically, all you have to do is attach the back to the base via 4 screws, and connect the cable that adjusts the PostureFit support, it takes around 15 minutes or so to assemble this chair. Make sure the chair is properly adjusted, I’ve read other reviews from people complaining that the circulation to their thighs was cut off by this chair, and I think this would only happen if they have the chair height too high and their feet are dangling.

The only major con for this awesome chair is about the price, yes, this chair is expensive. Herman Miller occasionally runs sales, they just had a 15 percent off pre-Christmas sale, which represents a significant chunk of change on an $800+ item. It may be worthwhile to wait for one of these sales before purchasing this chair.

If you can find one the best price, I would definitely recommend finding a retail store that has this chair and trying it out before purchasing, for a number of reasons:

  • Did I mention the price? It’s a lot of money, it’s very expensive chair, and probably a pain to return/exchange, if that’s even possible, so better try it before you buy.
  • The Aeron Chair come in three different sizes (A/B/C), and from other reviews and my own person observation of the medium (B) size, they run on the small side. My wife and I are both 5’6″, and we fit fine in the medium, but that might not be the case for someone a little taller.
  • There are closely related Aeron Chair, most notably the version with lumbar support instead of PostureFit that runs slightly cheaper: Aeron(R) Chair Highly Adjustable Model with Graphite Frame Classic Carbon with Lumbar Support Size C. This chair has a horizontal lumbar support rather than the butterfly-shaped PostureFit support. I found the horizontal lumbar support uncomfortable – it felt like a not-very-well-padded horizontal bar digging into my back through the mesh – but other reviewers prefer it over the PostureFit, so it’s best to try it out on your own.
